- The "unscience" breakdown -
Dog training simply comes down to MOTIVATION
Like us, dogs do and continue to do what works for them to either get what they want or avoid what they don’t want - seeking positive consequences and avoiding negative consequences and they learn through both positive and negative consequences.
Want more of a behavior?
Use Positive Motivation
Find out what your dog likes and apply it as a consequence when they do it!
- Food/ Treats
- Praise/ Affection
- Toys
- Play
Want less of a behavior?
Use Negative Motivation
Find out what your dog dislikes and apply it as a consequence when they do it!
Interrupters. Corrections. Punishment.
This is the piece many owners are uncomfortable with.
- Water Bottle
- Shaker Can
- Pressure
-- Leash Correction
Not getting reliable behaviors?
Use Negative Motivation - specifically pressure - for non compliance of known behaviors
-- Leash (any tool)
-- Spatial Pressure
-- Social Pressure
Followed by Positive Motivation when behavior is complete!
- Food/ Treats
- Praise/ Affection
- Toys
- Play
Dog training can be pretty simple
Teach your dog what you want
Give them the freedom to make the choice
Apply the appropriate consequence
Commit to consistently following through and you will change your life with your dog!
